Damasks. Heavenly Perfume. The Damasks are a very old family of roses and were prized for their scent in the Middle East where they were used for the extraction of attar to produce perfume. It is not known when they first came to Europe but it is certain that they were around in Roman Times. This is not the largest family of roses but there are some beautiful members of it ranging from mid pink to white. Most flower just once but there are one or two exceptions, in particular ‘Quatre Saisons’ which has a good second flush of flowers. They are a generally healthy and robust group of roses which are probably best placed in a rose or mixed shrubbery.
