Species Roses. The Originals.

Nearly all have single flowers and hips of different shapes and sizes. They are healthy roses and in the main are hardy. The species roses are a diverse group because they are largely unrelated, therefore each has its own fairly distinct characteristics. Some flower early, others late but very few have more than one flush. There are tall and short specimens with different hues and shapes of leaves.

At home, in the wild garden or the natural settings of park and woodland they also make good hedging and are worth growing for the ornamental value of their hips, which look great when cut and arranged with other berries and grasses.
