Hello,
Welcome to the forum from me, too. I'm not experienced enough to offer advice. I just planted MAC and New Dawn a couple of months ago. Both are in very shady spots and have put on good growth in a short period of time. I look forward to hearing more about your garden. Best of luck with choosing your rose. Cyndy |

hi James
Welcome from me too :) How far is the wall from the earth? You should normally plant roses at least a foot away from walls anyway. Then if they're climbers you want to grow up a wall, when you plant you should 'tilt' the rose at an angle towards the wall so it grows in the right direction. I think if you want a biggish climber for your wall you would need a pretty big pot. Mme Alfred Carrière would be a great choice for a doorway as the blooms hang downwards so you can see them best if you stand under them. It's VERY vigorous though, not only in height but also in the amount of canes it shoots up from the base. Another very nice cream/white rose is Sombreuil, you can see pics on HMF here: http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/pl.php?n=5858&tab=10 I don't grow this one myself but I don't think it's as vigorous as Mme A. It's also very nicely scented and a repeat flowerer with old-fashioned flowers. Aimée Vibert could be another nice choice - repeat-flowering, very pretty white flowers with pink buds, and also reported to be nearly thornless - a very important consideration if you have a rose near a door. You can see pics here: http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/pl.php?n=87&tab=10 and another lovely photo here: http://www.rosegathering.com/vibert.html And Taddy has on another thread warmly recommended 'Purezza', also thornless, white and good climber. See: http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/pl.php?n=5021&tab=10 See post 15 on this threat: http://www.peterbealesroses.com/foru...pic.php?id=642 greetings Maribel |

The ideal rose for you is City of York which is a repeat flowering, scented white to yellow rambler.
Another rose, slightly more HT looking is White Cockade which would work well. Regards Pete IT Manager
