Default Rose 'Oscar Levant'

Someone on another forum is looking for an 'Oscar' plant and someone else has suggested a rose called 'Oscar Levant' but believes it's no longer cultivated. I've looked in the usual places (RHS Plant Finder) but cannot find any trace of it. Any ideas?

PS Oscar Levant was an American pianist in the first half of the 20th century.

Does the rose called Oscar Levant exists in general? It does not seem to be present in any database, including HMF one, which had a big list of extinct roses as well.

There are a few other roses called Oscar, Oskar Scheerer, Oscar Chauvry, Oscar Leclerc, Oscar Pantoli. All of them are a bit annoying to obtain and might not be worth a garden space, but you can find where to buy them through HMF Buy From tab.

CRL has three "Oskar's"

Oskar Kordel (Oskar Cordel), Hybrid Perpetual, medium to deep pink, breed 1897 by Lambert. it's only available by two nurseries world wide: Chill Out Roses in Chugiak, USA and Hortico in Canada

Oskar Scheerer (Orscar Scheerer), Shrub Rose, dark red, breed by Kordes in 1961, available at 4 nurseries world wide: Les Roses Anciennes de Andre Eve, France; Pepinieres Loubert, France; Pepinieres Prayssacoises, France; La Rosarie Du Berry, France

Oscar Chauvry, Noisiette, medium pink breed 1900 by Chauvry is available only from: La Rosarie du Desert, France

Have fun hunting

hehe, Paul about the car abbreviations, but!

excuse my ignorance...I had no inkling what RHS stood for, silly me, but I'm proud to say I did guess that R meant Royal, hahaha! I think pulling such a late nighter is stumping my brains. But I had to google RHS Plant Finder to have the full name....Royal Horticultural Society

Now, Stefanie, what is CRL? I didn't see it on the main Google initial listings....

Rose jargon Paul CRL is short for "Combined Rose List". A very useful reference book and a must have for every rose collector or mad rosarian (like me )

I have used the term Combined Rose list quite often in previous postings so I had assumed that by now most people are aware of it - obviously I was mistaken.

You might want to check it out under http://www.combinedroselist.com/
