Having visited Beales Nurseries some years ago, we could enthuse at length about both the gardens and the friendliness of the staff! ( Particular mention must go to Ian who kindly drove us all back into Attleborough and the staf of the Bistro which opened in the evening for meals in those days...fabulous service, absolutely delicious meal!)

Anyway, my main point is- Beales acts as the U.K. 'depository' of rose speices and shrubs but I was wondering if there is a similar place for the many H.T.s and floribundas bred over the last century or so? Some varieties are so frustratingly elusive....My had McGredy's Ivory years ago but I cannot find a trace of it nowadys.

Hi Ewan,

This is what comes up on the nccpg site when one searches for roses.

http://www.nccpg.com/page52.aspx?Find=rosa&Area=&Type=

Perhaps that helps?

Fascinating site, Pete! I've put it into my Faves!
However, it strikes me from a cursory look at the various collections that H.Ts and Floribundas ( and possibly polyanthaa as well) have been overlooked for preservation purposes. Maybe as the 'boundaries' of what is classified as 'old' shunt forward, these will start to be sought and protected.
