I have a new Gruss an Teplitz soon to be planted in the ground. I live in zone 9 of California where two weeks of nearly every summer temperatures reach 100 degrees F. I would like to plant the rose in a west-facing location in front of an L-shaped niche of the house where I would like to train it for climbing. I've read that it can grow 10 to 12 feet in one source but two other sources state 5 or 6 feet (perhaps the difference is between England and California?). My question is this: Should I plant it there, or should I choose a true climber or pillar rose for that location? (It really is the perfect spot for a climbing rose.)

Gruss an Teplitz can be trained as a small climber and in more sunny climates than Norfolk will grow larger than 6' so you should be good to go. :D Enjoy and be sure to post a picture when she is reaching for the sun!
