| Roses belong to many families such as the Portlands, Damasks, the modern families and many more. Different families have different charactaristics; the Damasks tend to be very double flowers with heavy scents, and the species tend to be single flowers with mostly little scent that attract varied wildlife. |

These scent ratings have been compiled soley by Peter Beales himself to try and give total consistancy through out this very subjective topic. For example some roses smell intensely of citrus or myrh but there are some people who can simply not detect either fragrance! |

| Roses vary in thornyness from totally thornless roses like Zephrine Drouhin and Kathleen Haropp through to very thorny roses like Kiftsgate and Mermaid, which are so big and thorny they are useful for using as security barriers where intruders may otherwise stray! Saucer Shaped
 Shallow cupped saucer shaped blooms.
