BOURBONS

BourbonsThe Bourbons first emerged in the mid-nineteenth century. They are most diverse, both in habit of growth and colour of flower. They were very popular in Victorian times when their repeat flowering characteristics were much appreciated, as indeed they are today.



Adam Messerich (1920)

(Bourbon) Semi-double, luminous bright pink. Continuous flowering. Deserves more attention. Vigorous.

Archiduchesse Elizabeth d'Autriche (1881)

(Bourbon) Fully double flowers opening flat. Scented. Soft rose pink. Needs support or hard pruning.

Blairii No. 1 (1845)

Unique to us in the UK.
(Bourbon Climber) Flowers large, blowsy and scented, soft blush pink. A good climber.

Blairii No. 2 (1845)

(Bourbon Climber) A favourite of mine. Large, flattish blooms of pale pink. With deeper centres. Fragrant. Very double and free flowering.

Boule de Neige (1867)

(Bourbon) A fine shrub with glossy foliage bearing full flowers of pure white with a strong fragrance. Summer and autumn flowering.

Bourbon Queen (1834)

(Bourbon) ‘Queen of the Bourbons’ Vigorous. Free flowering, cupped rose pink, semi-double. Well worth growing in any soil.

Commandant Beaurepaire (1874)

(Bourbon) A strong bush with fresh green leaves. Large double crimson flowers, striped pink and purple and marbled white. An excellent rose.

Coupe d'Hebe (1840)

(Bourbon) A tall shrub bearing plenty of globular, soft pink blooms. Attractive pale green foliage.

Fulgens (1830)

(Bourbon) "Malten". Almost double flowers of bright cerise, flecked crimson on an upright plant with good foliage.

Gipsy Boy (1909)

(Bourbon) "Zigeunerknabe" Medium double flowers of deep crimson, sometimes paler with primrose yellow anthers. Highly scented. Vigorous with lots of foliage.
