About Thorncroft Clematis
Thorncroft Clematis Nursery was first established in 1985 as a wholesale company supplying quality clematis plants to the garden centres and nurseries around central Norfolk. On the Easter Bank Holiday weekend of 1989 the first shop was opened at Thorncroft for retail sales direct to the public and was a great success.
Throughout the early 1990's Thorncroft's good reputation grew rapidly not only in the UK and Europe but worldwide as well, mainly thanks to the success enjoyed at flower shows and an expanding mail order and export service.
Peter Skeggs-Gooch is the third generation in the family business which was established by his grandmother and mother in 1985. From the age of 5 Peter grew up on the nursery with clematis all around him and thoroughly enjoyed nursery life. At the age of 21 Peter undertook a working holiday to New Zealand to work on a clematis nursery there and this was the moment that his passion for clematis really took hold. Upon his return to the UK Peter quickly took over the production management at Thorncroft Nursery and in January 2013 he was privileged to formally take over ownership of the family business.
