Upright, evergreen shrub with shiny, wavy-edged, deep chocolate-purple leaves. Insignificant flowers in June. Best in full sun to part shade and moist, well-drained, slightly acid soil. Frost tender. Protect from cold winds. Good for containers.

Large, open, deciduous or semi-evergreen shrub with deep green, flushed purple leaves. Creamy-white, fragrant flowers on leafless stems. January to March. Ht.2mt.(6ft.). Grow in sun or part shade and fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Better against a warm wall or fence.
Piptanthus nepalensis (Evergreen Laburnum)

Semi-evergreen or deciduous, open, upright and tender shrub with leaves of three dark blue-green leaflets. Upright, terminal racemes of pea-like, vanilla-scented, bright yellow flowers emerge from hairy buds May and June. Ht.2.5mt.(8ft.). Pendant green seed pods form after flowers August to September. Best grown in full sun and well-drained soil. Grow against a warm wall and protect from cold winds.
Viburnum x bodnantense Charles Lamont

Upright, deciduous shrub bearing bronze tinged young leaves turning dark green. Dense clusters of strongly fragrant, bright pink flowers on bare stems, from November to March. Ht.3mt.(10ft.). Grows in full sun or partial shade, on fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Some shelter helps prevent frost damage to flowers. Good in shrub borders or as a specimen plant, near a pathway.
