Eriobotrya japonica (Loquat)

Evergreen shrub or small tree with large, almost leathery, dark green leaves. Fragrant, self-pollinating, yellow flowers. November to March. Ht.4m.(13ft.). Golden-orange fruit after flowers. Grow in sun or part shade and fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Can withstand salty aspects. May need some frost protection. Good for mediterranean type gardens.

Rare plant as it bears small, green-purple, dioecious flowers, from purple-red buds, in the centre of leaves. April to May. Black fruits in autumn if both sexes grown. Grow in sun or shade in moist soil.

Handsome, clump-forming plant with delicate, feathery, blue-green leaflets. upright stems of bottlebrush-like heads of vivid, deep purple-red flowers. May to August. Ht.75cm.(2.5ft.). Grow in full sun or part shade and moist, well-drained soil. Good for moist border or as specimen.
