Eriobotrya japonica (Loquat)

Evergreen shrub or small tree with large, almost leathery, dark green leaves. Fragrant, self-pollinating, yellow flowers. November to March. Ht.4m.(13ft.). Golden-orange fruit after flowers. Grow in sun or part shade and fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Can withstand salty aspects. May need some frost protection. Good for mediterranean type gardens.

Rare plant as it bears small, green-purple, dioecious flowers, from purple-red buds, in the centre of leaves. April to May. Black fruits in autumn if both sexes grown. Grow in sun or shade in moist soil.
Iris Sable (Tall Bearded and Intermediate Bearded)

Scented flowers. Black-purple falls with purple standards. A lighter centre is highlighted by an orange-tipped blue-purple beard. June to July. Ht.90cm.(3ft.). Best in a hot, sunny and well-drained position.
