Akebia quinata (Chocolate Vine)

Semi-evergreen twining climber up to 10mt.(12ft.). Leaves have a purple tinge in winter. Vanilla-scented flowers produced from March to May, maroon-chocolate in colour. Large sausage-shaped fruit can follow in warm climates or positions. Needs a moist, well-drained soil in sun or part shade.

Compact, evergreen shrub with lush dark green leaves. Red-purple flowers in small clusters from April to May. Ht.1mt.(3ft.). Large, bright red berries after flowers. Grow in full sun or full shade in moist, well-drained soil. Tolerant of any position especially dry shade. Berries better with male form nearby.
Corylus maxima Purpurea (Purple Leaved Hazel)

Vigorous, deciduous shrub or small tree with deep purple leaves. Purplish catkins with yellow anthers hang from bare branches in late winter. Ht.6mt.(20ft.). Edible nuts form in autumn. Grow in full sun or partial shade on fertile, well-drained soil. Good for hedging or as specimen plant.
