Crinodendron hookerianum (Lantern Tree)

Stunning, evergreen with toothed, elliptic, dark green leaves. Pendant, crimson to deep carmine-pink flowers, mostly as lantern-shaped buds, along stems. May to August. Ht.5mt.(16ft.). Grow in sun or part shade and moist, fertile, well-drained acid soil. Good for woodland gardens. Protect in cool greenhouse or conservatory in cold areas.

Evergreen, dense male shrub with spiny leaves which are pink when young and mature dark green to almost black with a broad cream edge, on purple stems. Ht.5mt.(15ft.). Grows in full sun on moist, well-drained soil. Very good as a hedging plant, for screens, or as a specimen plant. Can be grown in coastal regions.
