Fast-growing, spreading, deciduous tree, or very large shrub, bearing heart-shaped, leaves that are pink-tinged when young; then rich green turning to a stunning yellow, then orange to purple in autumn, especially on acid soils. Ht.20mt.(65ft.). Has insignificant red flowers. Fallen leaves have distinctive smell of burnt toffee. Grow in sun or partial shade on moist, well-drained soil. Best if sheltered from cold winds. Good specimen plant.
