Rhus typhina (Stag's Horn Sumach)

Large, upright, deciduous shrub or small tree with deeply cut, dark green leaves. Conical clusters of yellow-green flowers. July to September. Ht.5m.(16ft.). Deep crimson-red fruit after flowers on female forms. Leaves turn a fantastic range of orangey-reds in autumn. Grow in sun and fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Good for edge of woodlands or specimen.

Evergreen, rhizomatous perennial forming mounds of rounded, kidney-shaped, deep green leaves. Abundant spikes of bell-shaped, dark violet-blue flowers. March to May. Ht.25cm.(10in.). Grow in part to full shade and moist, well-drained soil. Good for woodland plantings, front of shady borders, rock gardens and peat beds.
