Cotinus coggygria Royal Purple (Smoke Tree)

Deciduous, bushy shrub with dark red purple foliage turning scarlet in autumn. Plume like panicles of inconspicuous, deep pink flowers in summer, giving a smoke-like appearance. Ht.5mt.(15ft.). Flowers followed by ovoid fruits in late summer. Best in sun and moist, fertile, well-drained soil. Good as a specimen plant or in the shrub border.

Vigorous, deciduous, shrub with rounded rich purple leaves. Purplish-pink flowers in large feathery plumes giving 'smokey' effect. July to August. Ht.6mt.(20ft.). Leaves turn brilliant red in autumn. Grow in full sun or part shade and moist, well-drained soil. Good at back of border or as specimen.
