Spreading, evergreen shrub with spiny, glossy, dark green holly-like leaves. Long, drooping, catkin-like racemes of vanilla-scented greenish-white flowers from July to September. Ht.5mt.(15ft.). Grows in sun or partial shade on fertile, well-drained soil. Frost hardy. Good trained against a sunny, sheltered wall.
Upright deciduous shrub with arching branches bearing lustrous dark green leaves. Slender, pendent racemes of fragrant, greenish-white flowers. July to September. Ht.1.5m.(5ft.). Leaves turn rich burgandy in autumn. Grow in sun or part shade and fertile, moist, slightly acidic soil. Good for borders, woodland settings or watersides.
Upright, bushy, evergreen shrub with peeling, reddish-brown and creamy-white bark, bearing aromatic, glossy, dark green leaves with creamy-yellow margins that are pink-tinged when young. Ht.4mt.(12ft.). Small white flowers produced from July to September giving rise to round, purple-black fruit autumn and winter. Frost tender. Best in full sun or partial shade on well-drained soil, with shelter from cold winds. Good in containers.
Rosettes of silvery, woolly leaves with branched stems bearing vivid, velvety, magenta flowers. July to August. Ht.75cm.(2.5ft.). Grow in sun or part shade and fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Good for front of borders, coastal areas and as cut flower. Will readily self-seed.
