Cupressus macrocarpa Goldcrest (Monterey Cypress)
Columnar, evergreen tree with golden-yellow, scale-like leaves and flaking, scaly bark. Bears small, spherical, female cones. Ht.2.5m.(8ft.). Grow in sun and well-drained soil with shelter from cold winds. Good for containers, Specimen plant and hedging.
Garrya elliptica (Silk Tassel Bush)

Evergreen, bushy, dense shrub with dark, wavy-edged glossy green leaves. Flowers as grey-green catkins, much longer on male than female plants from December to February. Ht. 4mt.(14ft.). Frost hardy. Best grown in full sun or partial shade, in fertile, well-drained soil. Good at back of shrub border or against a wall. Can be used as a windbreak in coastal regions.
