Liatris
Perennials with tuber or corm-like swollen, flattened stems.
Linear to lance-shaped leaves are borne in basal tufts, and arranged alternately on stiff stems. Corymb-like spikes or racemes of numerous button-like flowers made up of dense clusters of tubular, pinkish-purple or white disc florets which, unusually, open from the top down. Good for mixed borders and for cutting. Attractive to bees. Best in full sun and moist, well-drained, moderately fertile soil.
