Monarda (Bergamot / Bee Balm)
Annuals and clump-forming rhizomatous perennials. Sparsely branched stems with toothed, or sometimes entire, oval dark- or purple-green, veined, aromatic leaves. During midsummer to early autumn tubular, sage-like, white, pink, red or violet flowers, often with coloured bracts, produced in terminal whorls. Best grown in moist, well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Can become invasive.
