Physostegia

Erect, hairless, deciduous, rhizomatous perennials that have square stems and often toothed leaves. Almost stalkless, tubular, purple, pink or white flowers borne in sometimes branched racemes. Flowers remain in new position if moved. Good for mixed border and as cut flowers. Best in sun or part shade and fertile, moist soil.

    Bushy mounds of leaves and upright, elegant, tapering spikes with deep rose flowers. Flowers stay in new position when moved. Attractive green seed pods after flowers. Grow in moist borders, coastal and wet areas. Good as cut flower and attractive to butterflies.

    Upright clumps of lance shaped leaves which are variegated with white and pale green. During the Summer, spikes of neatly arranged soft pink, tubular flowers appear. Slower to spread than other varieties-forms a nice clump. Rich, moist soil-can be planted near a stream or pond.
