Deciduous, semi-evergreen or evergreen shrubs and trees, grown for their clusters of small, fragrant, flowers. Fully to half hardy. Best in full sun and well-drained soil.
Cut hard back in spring. B. crispa, B. davidii, B. fallowiana, B. Lochinch, B. x weyeriana. Remove flowered shoots on B. alternifolia. Lightly trim all other species after flowering. Nectar rich plants beneficial to wildlife such as ladybirds, hoverflies, lacewings and butterflies.
