Evergreen or deciduous shrubs or trees and scrambling or root climbers grown for their foliage and shade. A few also for their fruit. Insignificant clusters of flowers in spring or summer. Frost hardy to frost tender. Best grown in full sun or partial shade and fertile, well drained soil. Some, especially those grown for fruit, are very good in containers or with root restriction.

    Reliable, hardy and prolific. Large, brownish-red fruits with an almost blue bloom red flesh and rich, sweet flavour. August to September. Ht.5m.(15ft.). Self fertile. Grow in sun and poor, well-drained soil. Best to have roots containerised and with shelter from cold.
