Deciduous trees and shrubs grown for their often fragrant flowers, borne singly or in umbel-like corymbs, their edible fruits and sometimes colorful foliage, particularly in autumn. Flowers are usually shallowly cup-shaped, single, semi-double or double, white through to deep pink or red. Leaves are oval and toothed. Best grown in full sun, but will tolerate some shade, and moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Good for specimen trees, smaller gardens, autumn leaf colour and culinary crab apples.
