Narrow to broadly conical, evergreen, coniferous tree. Scale-like leaves that are aromatic when bruised. 

Small, erect, variably-shaped female cones have scales that hinge from the base. male cones are small and ovoid. Best grown as a specimen tree but more used for hedging. Grow in full sun and moist, well-drained soil with protection from drying winds when young. trim in spring and late summer.
