Narrowly to broadly conical, evergreen, coniferous tree. Scale-like leaves that are aromatic when bruised. Small, erect, variably-shaped female cones have scales that hinge from the base. male cones are small and ovoid. Best grown as specimen tree but more used for hedging. Grow in full sun and moist, well-drasined soil with protection from drying winds when young. trim in spring and late summer
