Evergreen palms, mainly single stemmed but may have clusters. Cultivated for their attractive habit, terminal fan-shaped, palmately lobed leaves and cup-shaped flowers, surrounded by bowl-shaped, white or brown bracts. Flowers are followed by spherical or kidney-shaped fruit. Good for growing in courtyards, small gardens or as specimen trees. Best grown in full sun or light, dappled shade and fertile, well-drained soil with shelter from cold winds.
